Empowering communities, nurturing resilience.
Rural communities possess remarkable self-reliance
and a strong sense of communal support, traits that have sustained them through various challenges over generations. These communities are adept at managing their needs with the resources at hand, often innovating out of necessity. However, despite this inherent resilience, there is a critical need for more substantial support in terms of resources to fully unlock their potential.
The founders of the Southern Institute for Community Resilience draw from a profound connection to Alabama, with familial roots stretching back to the era of slavery and generations that set down deep roots in Abbeville, AL, post-emancipation, embodying a legacy of resilience and community spirit.
“Never to forget where we came from and always praise the bridges that carried us over.”
